This route winds its way along a pretty stream towards Fremont Pass (11318 ft). The rugged scenery includes river meadows, alpine tundra, ghost towns and abundant summer wildflowers. The Scenic Byway continues on toward the Climax molybdenum mine to end at Leadville.

The easy, somewhat rough, 4wd road leaves from a corner of the parking area and will reach a gate near some cabin ruins in just over a mile.

Terrific vista of Jacque Peak with the cabin ruins in the foreground. Wildflower filled meadows below an incredibly scenic cirque.
